Smith collection contains a photo album, and a few loose photos of Women's Army Corps (WAC) Captain Jean P. Smith. There is one photo of a WAC parade at Fort Des Moines in 1943 and a folder with some photos taken in New Guinea during WWII, which show natives and Army personnel. The large album shows mostly snapshots Smith took as she traveled through Japan in 1946 and 1947 when she was doing occupation duty there. The album is well-captioned and shows views of rural and urban scenes throughout the country. The album is heavy on Japanese civilian subjects and not U.S. military occupation.
